Texas SandTray Association offers several levels of sandtray certifications, Clinical Certification in Sandtray Therapy (CCST), School Based Certification in Sandtray Therapy (SB-CST), and Advanced Clinical Certification in Sandtray Therapy (CCST-AC). Listed below are each level's required criteria.

* For brevity, note that TSTA may use CCST/AC/SB to refer to CCST, CCST-AC, and SB-CST collectively.  
 

Clinical Certification in Sandtray​ Therapy (CCST)

 

•  Completion of levels 1-4

•  Current and good standing state mental health licensure

•  10 individual trays with notes

•   2 case consultations with qualified consultant (therapist who has completed levels 1-4)

Advanced Clinical Certification in Sandtray Therapy (CCST-AC)

 

• Completion of levels 1-10

• Current and good standing state mental health licensure

• 10 additional individual trays with notes

• 4 additional case consultations with qualified consultant (therapist who has completed levels 1-10)

School Based Certification in Sandtray Therapy (SB-CST)

•  Completion of levels 1-4

•  Current and good standing certification in school counseling or school social work

•  10 individual trays with notes

•   2 case consultations with qualified consultant (therapist who has completed levels 1-4)

CERTIFICATION FAQ's

 

How do I find trainings in sandtray Levels 1-4?

Our approved trainers are invited to advertise their courses on our trainings page here. We also keep a current list of our approved trainers here, and you may contact them directly to inquire about any trainings they may be offering.

How many CEU’s are required for re-certification?

Our requirement for sandtray CEU’s is now 12 hours for every 2 years. Remember that you can have CE’s from ANY sandtray trainings. These can be online, as well.

Can I apply for CCST-T without being a CCST first?

No, TSTA requires that individuals be certified as clinical sandtray therapists (CCST) for one year before applying to be CCST Trainers. You can view the other criteria for applying to be a CCST-T here.
